Medical
Medical Care (4 South) is a 32-bed medical unit. We provide care for a variety of medical needs including but not limited to substance abuse, pneumonia, sepsis, small bowel obstructions, anemia, and infections. We have a great supportive team that works well together. We work closely with the attending physicians to provide a care plan that is individualized to each patient need. The collaborative efforts of the physicians, therapists, case managers, clinical care coordinators, nurses, and CNAs play a role in communicating to ensure the needs of the patients are being met. 

Oncology/Palliative
Oncology/Palliative (4 North) is a 32-bed oncology/palliative unit. Although most of our patients have a cancer diagnosis, they are typically admitted for medical reasons (sepsis, pneumonia, anemia, etc.). We work very closely with the palliative and hospice departments to ensure that the patients and their families have everything they need when they are discharged.  We believe that everyone deserves to be comfortable and with their families for as long as possible. We have a great team and believe that “no one sits unless everyone sits.”

Comprehensive Medical Unit (CMU)
Comprehensive Medical (5 North) is a 32-bed Comprehensive Medical and Stroke Unit. We are excited to be certified as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. Our patients are primarily here for stroke, infectious diseases such as Covid, and other medical reasons.  Our nurses are NIH (stroke) certified. We believe that the brain is the most important organ in the body! On our unit, teamwork makes the dream work! We are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people suffering from diseases and to transform human health!

General Surgery 
General Surgery (5 South) consists of a cohesive unit of nurses who strive for excellent patient outcomes through teamwork and evidence-based care. We provide treatment to an extensive population including post-surgical patients, traumas, and medical patients. 

Orthopedic 
Orthopedic (5 West) is a 30-bed Orthopedic Unit that consists of but is certainly not limited to, the musculoskeletal system. We assist patients who have acute or chronic medical problems related to bones, joints, tendons, muscles, and/or ligaments. We work closely with our Orthopedic Providers and Physical Therapy Team to ensure we provide the best care to our patients, families, and community.

Surgical Intermediate Care 
Surgical Intermediate (2 South) is a 32-bed Telemetry Monitored Surgical Stepdown Unit, designed for patients that require close monitoring for a variety of reasons. Our patient population consists of surgical patients (neuro, extensive abdomen surgeries, Whipples, etc.), trauma, stroke, chronic mechanical ventilation, DKA patients requiring insulin infusions, MSET responses (requiring a higher level of care from medical), high oxygen support needs, COVID and the step-down population (complex medical patients, sepsis, and respiratory failure). Our team focuses on providing high-quality, excellent patient care while partnering with the multidisciplinary care team.  

Cardiac Progressive Care 
Cardiac Progressive (2 North) specializes in the care of cardiac stepdown and complex medical step-down patients. Our patient population consists of respiratory failure, sepsis, highly acute congestive heart failure, titratable drips requiring additional monitoring from the nurse, thoracic surgeries, and post-open heart surgery patients to name a few. Our dynamic team members collaborate to ensure we provide our patients and their families with an excellent experience while they are in our care. 

Cardiac Care 
Cardiac Care (3 North) is a 32-Bed Telemetry Monitored Cardiac Care Unit. Our unit is designed for patients who require close cardiac telemetry monitoring. We care for patients with the following diagnoses but not limited to: post-cardiac procedures (cardiac catheterization, pacemaker placement/upgrade, AICD placement, ablations, and Watchman procedure), acute or chronic heart failure, and cardiac arrhythmias. On this unit, you can experience a variety of patient acuity from specialized cardiac drips to bedside cardioversions. Our fast-paced unit takes pride in providing excellent patient care through collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team and unit comradery! 
 
Intensive Care Unit (Medical & Surgical) 
Mary Washington Hospital's ICU is 38 beds, separated into a Medical ICU (MICU) and a Surgical ICU (SICU). The MICU's typical patient population can include diagnoses such as respiratory failure, DKA, renal failure, and more. The SICU's population is more specialized, with trauma patients, CV surgery patients (such as TAVRs and CABGs directly from the OR), neurosurgery patients, and other complicated surgical patients. Specialized equipment seen in our ICUs includes (but is not limited to) ventilators, CRRT, intraaortic balloon pumps, Impella, EKOS, and therapeutic temperature management. We are a fast-paced, hardworking, interdisciplinary ICU team with the benefit of 24/7 in-house intensivist coverage and eICU services.

Labor & Delivery 
The Mary Washington Hospital Labor and Delivery (L&D) Unit is a 21-bed unit where we care for pregnant and postpartum patients beginning at 12 weeks gestation. The unit hosts two operating suites and a 4-bed OB emergency department. L&D is supported 24/7 by a team of OB hospitalists, anesthesia providers, RNs, LPNs, and OB techs. Our amazing team looks forward to welcoming nurses with a love and passion for caring for our patient population. Labor and delivery is proud to be a part of the larger Women’s and Children’s Care Center, supporting the community at all levels of the family continuum. 

Mother Baby 
The Mary Washington Hospital Mother/Baby (MB) Unit is a 30-bed inpatient unit where we care for moms and their newborns. The MB unit is supported 24/7 by a team of OB hospitalists and pediatric hospitalists from Children’s National Hospital, one of the top-ranked, premier pediatric hospitals in the US. We have an all-RN, NRP-certified nursing staff, and support from CNAs. Our amazing team looks forward to welcoming nurses with a love and passion for caring for new moms and their families. Mother/baby is proud to be a part of the bigger Women’s and Children’s Care Center, supporting the community at all levels of the family continuum.  

NICU 
The Mary Washington Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a 17-bed inpatient unit where we care for critically ill newborns. The NICU is supported 24/7 by a team of neonatologists from Children’s National Hospital, one of the top-ranked, premier pediatric hospitals in the US. We have an all-RN, NRP-certified nursing staff, and support respiratory therapy, physical therapy, and dieticians. Our amazing team looks forward to welcoming nurses with a love and passion for caring for infants and their families. NICU is proud to be a part of the bigger Women’s and Children’s Care Center, supporting the community at all levels of the family continuum.  

Pediatrics 
The Mary Washington Hospital Pediatric Unit is a 10-bed inpatient unit where we care for infants and children from newborn to 18 years of age. The peds unit is supported 24/7 by a team of pediatric hospitalists from Children’s National Hospital, one of the top-ranked, premier pediatric hospitals in the US. We have an all-RN, PALS-certified nursing staff, and support from MSET, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, and dieticians. Some of the most common diagnoses we care for are children with asthma, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, cellulitis, hyperbilirubinemia, N/V/D, viral processes, orthopedic injuries, behavioral health, and post-op general surgery. Our amazing team looks forward to welcoming nurses with a love and passion for caring for children and their families. The Mary Washington Hospital Emergency Department is a busy, 50-bed Level II trauma center and primary stroke center offering 24-hour emergency care to Fredericksburg and surrounding communities. Come and expand your knowledge and skill set as we will give you the tools necessary to take care of a diverse patient population.

Observation Unit 
The Observation unit is a 27-bed short-stay unit. The main goal of the unit is for a 24-hour length of stay for our patients. Skills such as phlebotomy, nebs and transports are done by the unit staff to expedite patient throughput. The unit is staffed with a provider 24 hours a day
to expedite flow in a collaborative environment.

General Medical (3 West) is a 30-bed unit. This unit is exciting, fast, challenging, and rewarding. 3 West encompasses several specialties. Most patients suffer multiple medical issues making treatment and care complex. We provide a wide range of care for renal, neurology, infectious disease, psychiatric patients, and more. Our Nurses learn skills to manage all of those opinions to ensure the best outcome for the patient. 

Cardiac/ICU

If you want to work with a team of dedicated interdisciplinary clinical professionals, bring your skills to our cardiac care & ICU. In our fast-paced, 25-bed unit (19 cardiac care and six (6) ICU) you’ll work with cardiologists, intensivists and other specialists depending on the diagnosis.

Emergency Department

The Stafford Hospital Emergency Department (ED) is a 14-bed unit, with one trauma room. Stafford ED nursing staff provides care to patients needing emergent and urgent care – from newborns to geriatric. A specialized trained team of ED RNs, medics and ED tech together with ED physicians, NPs, and PAs provide 24/7 services. The ED team is excited to welcome nurses to join the team and will provide support and clinical growth in becoming an emergency-trained ED RN.

The FSED has 11 treatment rooms and one resuscitation room. We are capable of treating all emergencies. Emergency-trained RNs, medics and EMTs with a culture of support, clinical growth, and values. At Snowden, we provide inpatient services for adults and adolescents 13 and up in our 74-bed community mental health hospital. We also offer outpatient programs for adults in the areas of mental health and substance abuse. In addition, we treat substance abuse through an adult intensive outpatient treatment plan.
