Expand your nursing practice right here at home – opportunities abound at MWHC!  Crystal Gaskins, Clinical Nurse Specialist has experienced this over the past 14 years, here is her story...

Crystal lives locally in Spotsylvania with her husband of 18 years and their twin 5-year-old boys.  The Gaskins love the small community feel of the area plus all of the extracurricular activities offered through the school system.

Years at MWHC: 14

MWHC Journey:  Crystal joined MWHC as a new graduate nurse in the Nurse Residency Program.  She felt that support in the beginning was so important to her development.  There were monthly classes to debrief their feelings in a safe environment and to collaborate with the new graduate cohort.  Crystal spent several years as a registered nurse on the Surgical Intermediate Care Unit, progressed to charge nurse, and eventually, assistant nurse manager (ANM) on the unit.  While working as an ANM, Crystal took advantage of tuition assistance to complete her BSN through the University of Virginia.  Crystal transitioned to nurse educator in 2012, and passed her boards in March 2019 to become a clinical nurse specialist. Crystal believes that the beauty of nursing at MWHC is that you can go into different areas and try things you’ve never tried before, and you don’t have to drive to another health system to find what you want.

Fun Fact About Crystal:  Crystal held the high school record for the 2 mile run for nearly 15 years.  Her time was 12.59!

“You will find a family here and a support system that supports you every step of the way in your journey.”
